When done effectively, a relaxing massage during pregnancy can have many health benefits both physically and emotionally.
Massage has been proven to reduce stress hormones within the woman’s body which in turn can lead to a reduction in anxiety and improvement in mood.
Pregnant women also find that that a massage rejuvenates their energy levels as it gives them an opportunity to completely stop and relax.
Nausea, heartburn, aching neck, sore back, swelling and leg cramps have also been found to be relieved.
Holistically, pregnancy massage builds a sense of connectedness from the often “touch deprived” pregnant woman. Sorry fellas.
Overall an ante natal massage may improve the progression of labour with a better health outcome for both mum and bub. More relaxed mothers tend to have a lower risk of labour and birth complications.
Finally, be sure to check with your doctor that it is safe for you to have a massage while pregnant.
At Mud we are super excited to have our pregnancy pillow that allows you to lie on you tummy. Have a peak at our little video we made to introduce it... Yay!
