Maybe a little bit of stress is helpful .. it activates the neurochemicals to get you thinking faster, it may motivate you to study a little harder. But the downfall about stress is that it can take off like a rollercoaster and soon the benefits of a little bit of stress can turn into a bundle of stress that interferes with your ability to concentrate, sleep and have fun.

For some of you VCE exams may be the first opportunity to face stress. Here is a few tips that health experts recommend to free yourself from VCE stress, perform better and make the journey a little more enjoyable:


  1. Get Active - Physical activity helps lower stress hormones such as adrenalin and cortisol and bump up the production of your brain's feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins, boosting your mood.

  2. Zen out with Yoga – Mindful practices such as Yoga helps parasympathetic dominance of the Autonomic Nervous System.. inducing a relaxed state of mind a promoting restful sleep

  3. Massage – Not only can massage relieve all the tension and tight muscles from sitting at a desk.. your therapist can use essential oils to help reharmonise your body with the benefits if aromatherapy.

  4. Eat Well – Feed your brain the fuel it needs to stay on top of your game.. Balanced diet is the key (think the healthy food pyramid with protein in each meal so that your brain has a steady supply of sugar). Dark Green leafy Veg, Nuts and seeds are high in Magnesium and minerals to reduce tension and nourish the Nervous System. Fatty fish, chia seeds and flax provide Essential Fatty acids for brain health.

  5. Laugh – The best medicine for stress is laughter.. hang out with friends who boost your confidence and make you laugh, these friends will be cherished for life.
